When my brother pushed me to sign up for a Spartan Sprint 5K with him, I knew I’d struggle with some of the obstacles.
I’m a distance runner, so endurance? No problem. But upper body strength? Erm... I've hit *skip* in my workout app for the past several weeks. 😂
Instead, I spent my time on the Spartan website, sizing up what I’d be up against. One obstacle that caught my eye? The Atlas Carry - a challenge where you lift a 75lb stone, carry it around a flagpole, and drop it back at the start.
One week earlier, I tried lifting 80lbs at home and nearly fell over. Not promising.
But race day came. I walked up to the giant concrete boulder, took a deep breath, and… successfully hoisted it into my arms.
And in that moment, I realized - this is just like carrying a child!!!! 😂
Granted, none of my kids are 75lbs yet, but my ~mom arms~ came in handy in a way I never expected.
Seven years of hoisting strollers into trunks, hauling babies in car seats, and wrangling overtired, melty toddlers out of Target had secretly trained me for this. exact. moment.
And you know what? YOU, Reader, have been secretly training, too... for email marketing!
If you’ve ever: 💬 Told a relatable story to a friend 💬 Written a text that made someone LOL 💬 Explained something in a way that just made sense 💬 Shared an “oops” moment that turned into a lesson 💬 Ranted about something frustrating (and made a great point) 💬 Gushed about something you love and convinced someone to try it 💬 Told a friend “you HAVE to hear this” and kept them hooked 💬 Made up a funny analogy to explain something complex 💬 Debated a hot take and changed someone’s mind 💬 Given someone a quick tip that made their life easier
Then guess what? You already have the skills to write engaging, relatable emails.
You don’t need to start from scratch. You don’t need to be a “real writer.” You just need to take what you already do naturally and apply it to your marketing.
So today, try this:
👉 Take something you’ve already written (a social post, a text, a Slack message) 👉 Paste it into a GPT and have it help you turn it into an email (scroll down for a prompt you can use!) 👉 Review the result, tweak as needed, and hit send!
You might just realize—just like I had more strength than I gave myself credit for, you've been building this skill all along. All that's left to do is put it to use! 😉
